Language Programme Student

 Evening Class Student Information

UEA Evening Language Classes take place on UEA campus. We make every effort to welcome you to campus in a safe and managed way.

The ULP (University Language Programme) is committed to providing an open-minded and safe environment, and we ask that all students, visitors and staff members are treated with dignity and respect. Please refer to UEA’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policies.

Classroom information

  • We use a variety of classrooms across campus for our evening classes.

  • Your classroom will be advised by email upon confirmation that your class will be going ahead. Please check your emails regularly for updates.

Accessibility

  • The University is committed to promoting a positive attitude to disabled people and to creating the conditions in which all students and visitors can participate fully in the social and recreational life of the University.

  • The campus is generally accessible, although wheelchair users may have to take an alternative route. When on campus, accessible routes are marked by orange lines on the ground.

  • You can find accessibility information for facilities on campus by using the campus map and clicking on the ‘Accessibility’ tab at the bottom of the map.

  • Assistance dogs are welcome.

  • If you notify us of a disability, you may be required to complete a PEEP – Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan. If necessary, you will be contacted via email about this prior to the start of your course.

  • Should you have any specific access needs, please contact us directly by emailing ulp@uea.ac.uk or for general enquiries, please contact equality@uea.ac.uk

Getting to UEA

UEA is a campus university located 3 miles from Norwich city centre. The full address for navigation systems and maps is University of East Anglia, Norwich Research Park, Norwich, Norfolk, NR4 7TJ. For further information about public transport, car parking and cycling to UEA, please visit the UEA website.

Car parking

  • The Central Car Park (third turning on the left, down Chancellor’s Drive) is a visitors Car Park with a Pay & Display machine. This costs a flat fee of £1 after 6pm. Payment is via Parkonomy (an online payment system).  Please note, parking is for 2-hours only.

  • The Main Car Park costs a flat fee of £1 after 6pm. Charges are collected by pay-on-foot machines in the Main Car Park (P1 on the campus map).

  • Please be aware that payment machines across campus (including the Main Car Park, but excluding Central Car Park) are cash only, so please bring change as needed.

  • Card payment for the main car park can be processed at The Lodge between 8am-5pm. Any out of hours (5pm-8am) card payments can be taken at the Security Lodge opposite the entrance to Congregation Hall.

  • We would recommend that you do not arrive before 6pm or you will be charged for the 2-hours previous. There is a 5-minute grace period before 6pm in the Main Car Park.

  • There are disabled parking spaces for Blue Badge holders across the UEA campus. If you have specific requirements or want to make specific arrangements, please contact: transport@uea.ac.uk.

More info: https://www.uea.ac.uk/about/information-for-visitors/travel-and-transport/car-parking

Please note that parking on campus is extremely limited so please TRAVEL GREEN – walk, cycle, or use public transport, where possible.

Travelling by bus

There are two buses that run from Norwich city centre (with stops at the train station) to UEA – the number 25 and number 26 buses. Both bus routes run frequently throughout the evening, and we recommend that you consider travelling to and from UEA by bus, especially as pressure on our main car park can be considerable during the evenings.

Facilities

  • Toilets:  There are toilets located on all floors of all buildings on campus. All toilets are signposted by most stairwells and elevators throughout the building. Accessible toilets are widely available in the majority of buildings and are listed on the digital campus map (select the orange accessibility filter). There is a Changing Places facility in the Science Building. All accessible toilets are gender neutral and there are also designated gender neutral toilets in the Student Union building Union House on the main University square.

  • Library: Open from 07:00-19:00 for visitors. Outside of these hours access to the library is via campus card only. Find out more about accessing the library as a member of the local community.

  • Shop: Shop SU opens Mon-Fri 7.30am-11.00pm

  • Eating/Drinking: From a cappuccino in the Atrium, to premium quality dining in the Sainsbury Centre, there are plenty of options at UEA. Please visit this webpage, for full information and opening times of all catering outlets on campus.

  • Wi-Fi on campus: If you are a UEA member (staff or student) you can access Wi-Fi on campus via Eduroam. Visitors can make use of 'The Cloud' Wi-Fi by signing up for an account. This is the same type of service that you see in hotels, restaurants and shopping centres and you do not need a UEA username and account to access it. Find out more here.

  • There are water fountains outside the classrooms on the ground floor of most buildings.

Security

Out of hours you can find Security at the back of AHB (the old Registry). It’s always a good idea to contact them by phone in the first instance, but you’ll find them through a door opposite the entrance to Congregation Hall.

  • General security enquiries: 01603 592352 (ext 2352)

  • Emergencies on campus: 01603 592222 (ext 2222)
